Iceland, where we spent weeks exploring the stunning landscapes of this Nordic island. One of the highlights of the trip was driving around the famous ring road, a 1,332-kilometer highway that circles the entire country. Along the way, we marveled at cascading waterfalls, rugged coastlines, and towering glaciers. We had the chance to immerse yourself in Icelandic culture, sampling traditional cuisine and learning about the country's history and geology. This unforgettable journey through Iceland's dramatic beauty left a lasting impression all of us.

After leading a study abroad trip to Brazil and Argentina, where the students explored the wonders of the Amazon Rainforest, embarked on a captivating river cruise along the Amazon, and marveled at the breathtaking Iguazu Falls from both sides of the border, Professor Polack decided to create a photo book. With meticulous attention to detail, he curated a collection of photographs capturing the vibrant landscapes, fascinating wildlife, and joyous moments of the trip. I aimed to provide a visual narrative that would forever remind the students of their remarkable journey.

Kaylie’s Design Assignments Summary

This week we spent some time learning about different design aspects. I really enjoyed this unit as it was all new to me. I had never tried to make different designs before or learned anything about the various principles of design. I felt like this unit really expanded on the visual concepts we learned about last week. The first assignment of this week was the Design Safari assignment. This was a very important assignment. It introduced the elements of design. I really felt like searching for places where I could actually see certain elements helped me to gain a better understanding for the elements, as I could really see them firsthand. This activity taught me that we can see the elements of design all around us, even if we don’t always notice it.

The second activity this week was the create a newspaper activity. I thought this assignment was really fun. I had never done anything like this before. It was fun to really be creative and come up with all of the aspects that went into the newspaper, from the title of the paper to the story itself. I also learn more about Iceland by relating the newspaper article to Iceland.

The third activity this week was to complete 3 assignments from the design digital assignment bank. I completed the Are We There Yet and Contradiction Creation design assignments. I enjoy the DS 106 assignment bank assignments. These assignments offer so many different ways to think about the concepts we have learned about and discussed in class. These assignments have taught me that there are aspects of design all around us, we don’t always pick up on this fact. It also is a fun way to do some research about our upcoming trip to Iceland!
